AA itself has no dues or fees for membership; that’s one of the beautiful things about it. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.

Roundups are a little different though. They're not regular AA meetings; they're optional events that have real expenses. The registration fee is not 'paying to be in AA'; its helping cover the cost of renting the space, printing materials, coffee, and sometimes travel costs for speakers. It ties into the Seventh Tradition, which says that we are self supporting through our own contributions. Since we do not take outside funding, the people who chose to attend the event cover the cost of putting it on.

And of course, regular AA meetings remain free to anyone who would like to attend.
